Introduction

The Islands Healthcare Complex – Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (hereinafter referred to as the “Macao Union Hospital”) is a large-scale comprehensive public medical institution established by the Government of Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) with the support of the central government. It is jointly operated and managed by the Macao SAR government and the internationally renowned Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH). Macao Union Hospital is a prime example of cooperation between the Macao SAR government and the Mainland government in the healthcare sector under the policy of “one country, two systems”.

Adjacent to the Cotai Road (Estrada do Istmo), on the northeast side of the Seac Pai Van Reservoir in Coloane, Macao Union Hospital spans over 76,000 square meters of land, with a total built area of about 430,000 square meters. With a planned capacity of 800 beds and 26 operating rooms, the complex incorporates the Macao Hospital, the Logistics and Support Building, the Residential Building for Staff, the Administration and Multi-Services Building, and the Central Laboratory Building. During the trial operation phase, Macao Union Hospital isproviding outpatient appointments and health management services, followed by inpatient and radiography services, etc. In the future, advanced medical facilities such as AI adaptive intelligence radiotherapy systems and all-round linear accelerators integrating new irradiation technology for cancer patients will be put into use gradually.
